In this generative workshop led by award-winning poet Safia Elhillo, participants will read poems by Aria Aber, Jamaica Baldwin and Kristin Chang, among others, then use these poems as starting points to write their own poems exploring ideas of naming, language, and writing into history’s silences.
Sudanese by way of Washington D.C., Safia Elhillo is the author of Girls That Never Die, The January Children, Home Is Not a Country, and Bright Red Fruit. With Fatimah Asghar, she is also the co-editor of Halal If You Hear Me (Haymarket Books, 2019).
