This workshop will map the development of Black studies in relation to the global Black radical tradition of anti-racist, anti-colonial, anti-capitalist politics and cultural production. It will introduce the long history of Black liberationist theory and practice as a mode of Black knowledge production, then take up the Black radical tradition alongside Pan-Africanism and the ongoing Palestinian liberation struggle. This workshop is open to any student of emancipatory cultural politics and transnational anti-colonialism.

Sophia Azeb is an assistant professor of Black studies in the Department of Critical Race & Ethnic Studies at UC Santa Cruz. She is a scholar of the Black radical tradition and decolonial theory. She writes frequently on Palestine for The Funambulist.
